How to Transform your Planter into a DIY Sandbox

Are you ready to transform your unused planters into a DIY Sandbox? When we moved into our new home, we discovered these fantastic planters in our backyard. Unfortunately, neither my husband nor I have a green thumb to speak of, so we decided to repurpose them into something amazing for our kids – a sandbox that they could enjoy year-round. After some brainstorming, we were ready to bring this project to life!

Materials Needed:

Here’s a rundown of the materials you’ll need to kickstart your own backyard sandbox project:

  1. Weed control film
  2. All-purpose rocks (we used two bags)
  3. Quikrete premium play sand (10 bags of 50 lbs each) – the quantity may vary depending on the size of your planter

Step By Step Process:

Step 1: Prepping the Planter Base:

We started by thoroughly cleaning the base of the planter and then laid down the weed control film. To secure it in place, we used small nails, making sure they didn’t protrude to prevent any potential injuries to our little ones.

Step 2: Rock Solid Foundation:

Next, we evenly spread the all-purpose rocks over the weed control film using a rake. It’s crucial to be gentle during this step to avoid tearing the weed control film.

Step 3: Sand Magic:

Finally, we poured in the Quikrete premium play sand and carefully distributed it using the rake. It’s essential not to go too deep to prevent the rocks from surfacing.

In just one afternoon, we had successfully transformed our planters into a fantastic DIY sandbox.
